Song of the Day #3

It's been a quiet month on this blog, but I wanted to take one last shot during 2008. Here are the lyrics to what I think may be the perfect song for the occasion:

New Year's Day

All is quiet on New Year's Day.
A world in white gets underway.
I want to be with you, be with you night and day.
Nothing changes on New Year's Day.
On New Year's Day.

I... will be with you again.
I... will be with you again.

Under a blood-red sky
A crowd has gathered in black and white
Arms entwined, the chosen few
The newspaper says, says
Say it's true, it's true...
And we can break through
Though torn in two
We can be one.

I... I will begin again
I... I will begin again.

Oh, oh. Oh, oh. Oh, oh.
Oh, maybe the time is right.
Oh, maybe tonight.
I will be with you again.
I will be with you again.

And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you
Be with you night and day
Nothing changes
On New Year's Day
On New Year's Day
On New Year's Day

(For those who were not tuned into the zeitgeist [I feel pretentious even using that word] at the time, "New Year's Day" appeared on U2's War album in March, 1983. I was nine years old and certainly not paying attention, though I have come to appreciate Bono and co. a good deal since then.)
